Why I Volunteer with CORE El Centro

Shining our Volunteer Spotlight on Kari Southern, a member of CORE El Centro’s board of directors. We are so grateful to Kari for her work with CORE, and for sharing her thoughts on volunteering for our organization!

Q: Why do you volunteer at CORE?

A: I work at another nonprofit in Milwaukee, so I had heard of CORE. But I really got to know CORE better when I came to CORE a few years ago to take the Reiki I training. I loved the experience of that training and have now been trained at CORE through Reiki IV, but I’ve also gotten to know more about how the organization serves people’s holistic health needs in the community which is so needed. The staff here are amazing and dedicated to the community, and I wanted to find a way to also serve at this incredible organization.

Q: What do you like about volunteering at CORE?

A: I love that once you get connected to CORE you feel like family. I love feeling like I’ve found a way to be in service to the community through the great work that CORE does. This work is so critical and I’m honored to play a small part in helping.
